A 24-year old passenger has been caught by officials at Delhi精东影业 Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) attempting to board a flight to Canada while impersonating a much older man.

The man, identified as Guru Sewak Singh, was detained by India精东影业 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on June 18, 2024, after his odd appearance caught the attention of officials.

On trying to board an Air Canada flight, Singh presented a passport under the name and identity of Rashvindar Singh Sahota, aged 67.

Despite being in possession of the passport, with his hair dyed white and wearing glasses, officials noticed that Singh精东影业 skin texture and voice did not match that of a senior citizen.

A CISF statement seen by media outlet India Today read: “The man’s appearance, voice and skin texture seemed significantly younger than the details provided in the passport. Closer observation revealed that he had dyed his hair and beard white and was wearing glasses to appear older.”

Upon interrogation by CISF officials, Singh eventually disclosed his real identity, and officials found his actual documents, revealing his true age.

Singh was then handed over to Delhi Police for legal action.

A woman has been sentenced to five years and five months in jail after attempting to smuggle 4.3 kilograms of cocaine through Auckland International Airport (AKL) in 2023.

New Zealand Customs Service identified the woman as Delphine Ganon, aged 42. Ganon arrived at Auckland Airport in April 2023, and was stopped for questioning by a customs officer.

After a resulting series of investigations and searches, Ganon精东影业 suitcase was found to contain white powder in the lining that tested positive as cocaine. Five cosmetic bottle containers also contained substances that tested positive as liquified cocaine.

According to New Zealand Customs, the 4.3 kilograms of cocaine recovered from the suitcase and cosmetics bottles would have produced around 43,300 common doses, with an estimated total street value of up to NZ$1.94 million ($1.17 million).

It精东影业 estimated that the seizing of these substances may have prevented up to NZ$1.29 million ($780,000) of social harm and cost to New Zealand.

鈥淐ustoms remains ever-alert in our daily fight to stop the flow of illegal drugs from entering New Zealand. Our officers are well-equipped to identify and stop people who think they can bring illegal substances into our communities,鈥 Paul Williams, Customs Manager at Auckland Airport said in a statement.

Ganon appeared in the Manukau District Court on May 9, 2024, and was convicted for importing and possessing a Class A controlled drug (cocaine).

A 30-year-old man was arrested at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) after breaching airport security, entering the tarmac and attempting to enter the cargo hold of a Sri Lankan Airlines aircraft.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of April 26, 2024 when the man reportedly made his way past airport immigration controls and onto the tarmac.

Video footage of the incident, which has been published across social media platforms, shows the moment Australian Federal Police (AFP) and airport ground workers stopped the man from getting inside the aircraft精东影业 cargo hold.

The man appears to have reached the platform leading to the aircraft cargo area. The video clip shows airport ground workers lowering the platform so that AFP officers can get hold of the man, who can then be seen resisting until he was subsequently pinned to the ground.

The aircraft, a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A330, was due to operate flight UL 607 bound for Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo.

鈥淎FP officers arrested a man, 30, who allegedly ran through the main screening area and gained access to restricted areas, including the apron”, the AFP said in a statement seen by Australian media.

The man was eventually given a court attendance notice for breaching restricted areas of the airport. Following his arrest, he was also issued a 12-month ban from SYD Airport.

Passengers traveling through London Heathrow Airport (LHR), London Gatwick Airport (LGW), and Manchester Airport (MAN) will have to continue to adhere to the 100ml liquid restrictions, as the airports have missed the roll-out date for the latest scanners.

The three major UK airports were initially set to abolish the 100ml liquid carry-on restrictions by June 1, 2024.

Technology incorporated into the new airport scanners will negate the need for passengers to take out toiletries and laptops from their cabin bags for security checks.

The BBC has reported that the installation delay for the new scanners could last up to a year, meaning that passengers passing through these airports could still be required to adhere to current airport security protocols up until June 2025.

Smaller airports in the UK seem to be faring better. Teesside International Airport (MME) and London City Airport (LCY) already have the new scanners installed. Meanwhile, Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), Birmingham Airport (BHX)t, Bristol Airport (BRS) and East Midlands Airport (EMA) are expected to meet the June 1, 2024 deadline.

According to the UK Department of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority will impose financial penalties on airports that keep missing deadlines to install the next-generation scanners.

The new scanners feature computed tomography (CT) scans that provide clearer 3D images. Consequently, items can be left inside bags and liquids of up to two liters will be permitted.

Body-cam footage of a first class American Airlines passenger at Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW) has been released by Police Watch, a social media channel that provides raw and unfiltered footage of police officers in action.

The video shows police officers waiting on the jet bridge at DFW Airport and speaking to a flight attendant who tells them what the passenger is alleged to have done.

鈥淥fficers were called to the plane in reference to a highly intoxicated woman who was making various threats to the flight attendants,鈥 Police Watch captioned the video.

The flight attendant can be heard telling a police officer that the unruly passenger was seated in 1A, and went on to say that the passenger 鈥渢ried to kick my a**鈥.

Succeeding clips then show the passenger being handcuffed by police officers at the airport gate while other passengers look on.

The passenger can be seen crying as a police officer explains to her that she will be taken to a facility for a minimum of four hours until she 鈥渟obers up鈥.

After being escorted out of the airport, a police officer tells the passenger that DFW Airport has its 鈥渙wn jail鈥, whereupon the passenger breaks down. At this point, a man who introduces himself as the boyfriend of the passenger approaches and asks police officers what is going on. A police officer explains that the passenger was arrested due to 鈥減ublic intoxication鈥 and that she is going to 鈥済o to jail.鈥

The passenger精东影业 tirades escalate when she is brought to the police car to be searched, calling police officers offensive names and at one point mocking their salaries.

The video, which runs for almost 25 minutes, ends with the passenger being taken to the DFW Airport Police Jail, a low-security jail that is maintained and operated by officers at the DFW Airport Police Department.

According to a bond services company, DFW Airport Jail is typically used to house inmates who are serving sentences of less than a year and new detainees before they are moved to the nearest county jail.

Most inmates are convicted for misdemeanor offenses and have access to basic amenities.

Though the incident occurred on October 22, 2023, the raw police body cam footage has only been made available to the public in March 2024.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has unveiled a new self-service screening system at Harry Reid Internation Airport (LAS), United States (US).

The prototype system was revealed to US media on March 6, 2024, with the first live passengers expected to begin using the self-service screening from mid-March 2024.

The hope is that the self-service technology will allow airports to process thousands of passengers more efficiently each day.

Instead of passengers interacting with TSA staff as they pass through hand luggage screening and body scanners, interactive video monitors will be in place to offer guidance.聽聽

The video monitors will provide step-by-step instructions for passengers to complete screening at their own pace and once all checks are complete automated exit doors will open to let travelers through.

If any issues arise during the self-scanning process, then passengers will receive on-person alarm information enabling them to resolve the situation themselves rather than being pat-down or going through a secondary screening procedure.

While there is minimal assistance from Transportation Security Officers (TSO), they will be on hand for assistance as needed.聽聽

鈥淲e are constantly looking at innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience, while also improving security,鈥 TSA Administrator David Pekoske said. 鈥淭his self-service prototype allows our trusted travelers to complete the screening process at their own pace. Testing at the Innovation Checkpoint in Las Vegas gives us an opportunity to collect valuable user data and insights and explore opportunities to apply parts of the prototype to other airport security checkpoint.鈥

TSA PreCheck passengers at TSA精东影业 Innovation Checkpoint will be the first travelers to have the option to use the new system later this month.

TSA will collect passenger feedback and data on the system精东影业 performance, design, cybersecurity, human factors, and other variables to inform future design requirements and system development and to understand how passengers and TSOs interact with the system.

The new system has been put in place in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T).

鈥淭he number of airline passengers continues to increase year-over-year, creating a need for innovative screening solutions that enhance transportation security and make traveling more efficient,鈥 DHS Under Secretary for Science and Technology Dr. Dimitri Kusnezov said. 鈥淎t S&T, we are pushing the envelope with new technologies and concepts toward designing the airport of the future. Self-paced screening is one step toward building that future.鈥澛

A strike by security workers at several airports in Germany has led to multiple flights being cancelled or delayed.

The industry action began on February 1, 2024, and will last throughout the day with a raft of airlines warning customers that flights in and out of Germany could be affected.聽聽

The German airport industry group advised that 1,100 flights have been cancelled or delayed, affecting an estimated 200,000 passengers.聽

Security staff have walked out at Hamburg Airport (HAM), Bremen Airport (BRE), Hanover Airport (HAJ), Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN), Stuttgart Airport (STR), Dresden Airport (DRS) D眉sseldorf Airport (DUS) Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) and Germany精东影业 main international hub, Frankfurt Airport (FRA).

According to the union Verdi, which represents around 25,000 industry employees, three rounds of negotiations on increased pay for security staff have so far failed.

Verdi is looking for its members to receive an increase of around $3 an hour and a more generous bonus structure.

The demand is intended to compensate for the loss of purchasing power of employees due to inflation.

Security staff members who work in passenger screening, goods screening and cargo screening have all taken part in the industrial action, although workers at Munich International Airport (MUC) and Nuremberg Airport (NUE) are still working due to being affiliated with a different union.

Lufthansa advised customers who were scheduled to start their flight on February 1, 2024, from FRA, HAM, BRE, BER, LEJ, DUS, CGN, HAJ, STR and DRS to not attend the airport.

SAS was also warning its passengers about disruptions to flights leaving Germany and SWISS was asking its customers to check their flight status before attending the airport.

Every traveler dreads the tedious rigmarole of going through airport security: liquids out, laptops out, and in some cases, belts and shoes off as well.

One pilot appeared to have had enough of the stringent security process and stripped off more than what was asked at Queenstown International Airport (ZQN) in New Zealand.

Neil Abbott, a senior pilot for Air New Zealand, arrived at the airport for a duty flight to Auckland Airport (AKL) when he got into a heated argument with airport security staff during the routinary screening process.

Abbott reportedly became frustrated when he was asked to remove his boots as he was going through security.

In frustration, Abbott, who is described by his peers to be a 鈥渂it of a character鈥, started to strip off his clothes in public view.

Aviation security then called for police assistance, who tried to de-escalate the situation.

After the incident, Air New Zealand精东影业 Chief Flight Operations and Safety Officer Captain David Morgan released a statement seen by local NZ media, saying the flight was delayed by 鈥渙ne hour 39 minutes due to a change of crew being required鈥.

Although Morgan did not specifically confirm that the change of crew involved Abbott, he went on to say that the carrier精东影业 pilots undergo rigorous medical and psychological checks to ensure they are fit to perform their role.

According to local NZ media outlet The Press, there had been complaints from pilots over double standards and deficiencies with airport security during COVID-19. This had reportedly created tension due to some security staff overly scrutinizing pilots.

Spain精东影业 national police force Guardia Civil arrested 14 workers at Tenerife South Airport (TFS) on suspicion of stealing watches, laptops, and other valuables from checked-in luggage.

Officers seized items worth nearly EUR 2 million ($2.1 million) including 29 luxury watches, 22 high-end smartphones and 120 pieces of jewelry, as part of their operation on December 15, 2023.

Aside from the 14 arrested workers, a further 20 airport employees are currently being investigated for theft.

The Guardia Civil launched an investigation after receiving a marked increase in complaints and reports regarding missing items filed by passengers going through Tenerife South Airport.

Authorities believe the thefts occurred when baggage was placed in the aircraft hold, with suspects forcibly opening the suitcases and removing valuables when out of sight of passengers and other employees.

Police claim that once the suspects had gone through the luggage and picked out the items, the suitcases were then closed carefully to conceal signs of tampering.

The suspects are thought to have sold the stolen items to local and online shops. According to the Guardia Civil, 27 jewelry stores in Tenerife are also under investigation.

The suspects face charges of membership in a criminal group, robbery by force, and money laundering.

Tenerife South Airport is the main airport in Tenerife and the second busiest in Spain精东影业 Canary Islands, after Gran Canaria Airport (LPS). In 2022, it handled around 11 million passengers.

This incident is not the first high-profile airport theft case in Spain. In August 2023, A Hermes Birkin Bag containing 鈧8.5 million ($9.3 million) worth of jewels was stolen by two thieves at Aeroport de Barcelona-El Prat (BCN). The thieves used a rental car to get away but were eventually located by Catalan police in the city of Salt.

Passengers at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) experienced a fright after witnessing a man climb out onto the wing of a Southwest Airlines鈥 plane and run onto the tarmac.

The man then made a wild attempt to hijack an airport vehicle.

The incident occurred on November 26, 2023, and according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff精东影业 office, the man was a passenger on a Southwest Airlines aircraft that had not departed the gate.

The man used the emergency exit door to climb onto the aircraft wing. From there, he jumped onto the tarmac and tried to steal an airport vehicle to get away.

A number of the panicked passengers were able to record video footage of the incident, and uploaded the clips to social media.

In the video, fellow passengers, who had already boarded the flight and were waiting for the plane to pushback for departure, can be seen asking one another if a man jumped through the emergency exit.

Flight passengers were then asked to deplane as it was thought that the man left a suspicious package on the aircraft.

Once back at the airport, passengers witnessed another spectacle when they saw the man make a wild attempt to hijack an airport vehicle in the tarmac.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff精东影业 office clarified that contrary to earlier media reports saying an arrest was made, the man had been taken to a mental health facility where he remains hospitalized.

Police said there was no indication that the man had left anything on the plane, nor was he in possession of any type of weapon.

The man is not expected to face local charges, but the investigation has been referred to federal authorities.
