A portion of the roof of Delhi International Airport (DEL)精东影业 Terminal 1 roof has collapsed due to heavy rainfall and winds, resulting in the death of at least one person and injuries to several others.

The incident occurred around 05:00 local time on June 28, 2024, when the airport area received about 148.5mm of rain in a span of just three hours, more than the average for all of June, according to India’s weather office.

A portion of the canopy at the departure area of Terminal 1 collapsed, and flight operations were then shut down until 14:00 local time.

During a press briefing, India精东影业 Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu told reporters that the entire terminal had been evacuated and an investigation into the collapse ordered.

Video footage and photographs posted on social  media platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter) show pillars supporting the roof smashing into cars parked along the airport’s Terminal 1.

Airport officials said that the roof sheet and the support beams gave in, damaging four cars parked in the pick-up and drop area of the terminal.

Reports indicate that one person has died, with six others injured.

Naidu stated that a compensation fee of two million rupees ($24,000) will be paid to the family of the deceased, and 300,000 rupees ($3,600) to those injured.

The minister also declared that all flights scheduled until 14:00 have been canceled, with affected passengers receiving full refunds or alternate flight options. Flights scheduled to depart from Terminal 1 were diverted to Terminals 2 and 3 of the airport.

Flight tracking site Flightradar24 showed that at least 10 flights were canceled and another 40 delayed, while departures from Delhi airport were running late by an average of 50 minutes.

The airport confirmed the incident on social media, saying that emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected.

A former Customs Border Protection (CBP) officer has pleaded guilty to stealing cash from arriving international airline passengers during the course of his official duties at Naples Airport (APF) in Florida.

The US Attorney精东影业 Office in the Middle District of Florida said the officer, William Joseph Timothy, aged 43, stole approximately $18,700 in cash from airline passengers during 17 thefts between mid-2023 and early-2024.

The incidents were uncovered by the CBP精东影业 Office of Professional Responsibility investigators.

One of the incidents studied found that Timothy was covertly stealing cash from passengers during border enforcement examinations and currency verifications, which he performed as part of his role.

In one instance, a passenger arriving from the Bahamas noticed he was missing $2,200 after handing a US customs officer a stack of cash at the Naples Airport in Florida during a routine border examination.

鈥淓vidence collected during the investigation showed that Timothy was surreptitiously stealing cash from arriving international passengers during border enforcement examinations and currency verifications performed as part of his official duties as an assigned CBP Officer at Naples Airport,鈥 the US Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a press statement

According to the DOJ, a sentencing date has not yet been set. However, Timothy faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.聽

A 24-year old passenger has been caught by officials at Delhi精东影业 Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) attempting to board a flight to Canada while impersonating a much older man.

The man, identified as Guru Sewak Singh, was detained by India精东影业 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on June 18, 2024, after his odd appearance caught the attention of officials.

On trying to board an Air Canada flight, Singh presented a passport under the name and identity of Rashvindar Singh Sahota, aged 67.

Despite being in possession of the passport, with his hair dyed white and wearing glasses, officials noticed that Singh精东影业 skin texture and voice did not match that of a senior citizen.

A CISF statement seen by media outlet India Today read: “The man’s appearance, voice and skin texture seemed significantly younger than the details provided in the passport. Closer observation revealed that he had dyed his hair and beard white and was wearing glasses to appear older.”

Upon interrogation by CISF officials, Singh eventually disclosed his real identity, and officials found his actual documents, revealing his true age.

Singh was then handed over to Delhi Police for legal action.

The airline精东影业 new home at SFO opened its check-in gates and systems to passengers on June 19, 2024, following a two-year relocation period from Terminal 2.

The complete transition to Harvey Milk Terminal 1, including the opening of the airline精东影业 lounge, is set to take place in July 2024.

Alaska Airlines鈥 multi-million dollar investment to move to Harvey Milk Terminal 1 has made it the largest operating carrier in the terminal.

Alaska said the move has allowed the airline to be closer to fellow oneworld airline members and additional global partners and will provide guests with seamless connectivity to their next domestic or international flight.

The airline said its transition to Harvey Milk Terminal 1 has come just in time for its busiest travel months of the year.

Alaska Airlines is also the first airline at the terminal to debut the use of automated bag drops to process checked bags.

鈥淥ur new home in San Francisco International Airport精东影业 Harvey Milk Terminal 1 delivers a world class experience that our guests will love while supporting our goals of innovation, sustainability and long-term growth,鈥 Shane Jones, Senior Vice President of fleet and real estate at Alaska Airlines, said in a statement.

The $30 million relocation project to Harvey Milk Terminal 1 is part of Alaska Airlines鈥 larger $3 billion infrastructure investment to enhance the guest experience at major hubs along the West Coast of the US.

The airline also said it will be moving into the brand-new, bolder and brighter lobby at Portland International Airport (PDX) in August 2024.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in Malaysia was flocked by thousands of migrant workers as private firms rushed to bring in foreign workers before the deadline imposed by the country精东影业 government.

A report by Channel News Asia stated that the airport saw four to nine times more migrant worker arrivals, as the Immigration Department of Malaysia reported that 2,500 migrant workers arrived each day since May 22, 2024, with this figure increasing to between 4,000 and 4,500 on May 27, 2024.

According to the department, the usual daily arrivals of migrant workers range between 500 to 1,000.

The influx of migrant workers comes amid the government精东影业 decision to place a temporary freeze on companies to bring in foreign employment. The government initially gave a deadline of September 30, 2024, but unexpectedly brought it forward to June 1, 2024.

Video clips of the state of the airport on the days leading up to the deadline have been captured and uploaded on various social media channels, including Facebook.

The clip shows an unspecified terminal at KUL airport filled with migrant workers, many of them sitting and lying on the floor, while hundreds more are lined up.

Despite the rush to enter the country, State Minister Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury told Malaysian media that over 16,900 workers missed the deadline to reach Kuala Lumpur.

Statistics from the International Organization for Migration show that Malaysia has approximately 3 million migrant workers, making up 8.9% of the country精东影业 population of 33.4 million.

Migrants in Malaysia mainly come from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, with many engaged in industries including manufacturing, plantation, agriculture, hospitality and security services, and domestic work.

Qantas and Perth Airport (PER) have announced that they have reached a 鈥渉istoric鈥 12-year multi-billion dollar agreement that will bring new international and domestic flights to Western Australia and connect it to the rest of the country.

Perth Airport will invest around AUD 3 billion ($2 billion) in new terminal facilities and a new parallel runway to generate immediate and ongoing economic growth and job creation.

This will form part of a AUD 5 billion ($3.33 billion) capital investment program by Perth Airport which will also deliver two multi-storey car parks, major access roadworks, and the airport精东影业 first hotel. According to Qantas, this is the largest-ever private infrastructure development in Perth.

Qantas and Jetstar will also relocate all their services to a dedicated terminal that the airline said will enable the growth required to turn Western Australia into a major domestic and international hub for the airlines.

The new terminal is set to open in 2031, and together, Qantas and Jetstar plan to add 4.4 million seats to and from Perth annually.

The Australian flag carrier said the hub will significantly enhance inbound tourism and give Australians more options when traveling to Asia, Africa, India, and Europe.

Qantas said it will work with Perth Airport on plans for a multi-lounge precinct for international and domestic passengers with a new signature design and bespoke dining and wellness initiatives.

Under the agreement, Qantas also plans to build a new engineering hangar in the Airport Central precinct.

Qantas and Perth Airport have also agreed on the need for and timing of the new parallel runway which is expected to be open in 2028.

鈥淭his is the largest airport infrastructure deal in our history,鈥 Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson said in a statement. 鈥淚t will enable us to create a world-class western hub and significantly expand our domestic and international services over the short, medium and long term.鈥

鈥淧erth-London and Perth-Rome are two of the most popular flights on our international network, which gives us confidence in our strategy to ramp up WA flying over the next few years as we receive new aircraft and grow our fleet,鈥 Hudson added.

Hudson also said that the additional flying would see Qantas create an estimated 700 new jobs in Western Australia across pilots, crew, engineering, and airport staff.

Emirates has announced that all four of its check in facilities at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been given official Certified Autism Center Designation plaques.

The check-in facilities include Emirates City Check-in & Travel Store in Dubai International Financial Centre, Emirates Cruise Check In – Port Rashid, Emirates Cruise Check In – Dubai Harbour and Emirates City Check-In Ajman, as well as for the Emirates鈥 dedicated hub in Terminal 3 at DXB Airport.

The certification plaques were awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) to acknowledge that Emirates facilities in Dubai have taken significant steps towards making travel more inclusive and accessible to neurodiverse customers, meeting criteria required for a comfortable and supported travel experience.

Emirates employees at the various facilities have undergone specialized training on autism and sensory awareness, to equip them with the understanding and skills to address needs of autistic travelers or those with sensory sensitivities, along with their families.

Comprehensive facilities audits were conducted across the locations, measuring all sensory inputs in public areas such as sound levels, lighting, and potential sights and smells, in order to develop sensory guides, empowering travelers to make informed decisions and choose the environment that best suits their needs and preferences.

On April 24, 2024, the airline conducted a special flight experience for 30 UAE families with neurodivergent children to help the families  practice and alleviate anxieties before traveling and to raise awareness of autism.

According to Emirates, more than 29,000 of its cabin crew and ground staff globally have completed 鈥業ntroduction to Autism and Hidden Disabilities鈥 training. The online course was first launched in 2022 and covers a range of topics from the UAE National Policy for People of Determination, recognising autism, practical tips on how to assist passengers with hidden disabilities, responding with empathy, and information on the official support systems for helping passengers within the airport.

Two Italian airports are currently trialing FaceBoarding, a biometric facial recognition technology for passport-free processing.

Milan Linate Airport (LIN) and Catania鈥揊ontanarossa Airport (CTA) now allow passengers who are over 18 years of age to board a flight without the need to show travel documents.

ITA Airways and Scandinavian Airlines passengers are among the first to be trialed. Travelers flying with other airlines will still be required to show their travel documents before boarding.

鈥淭he Face Boarding service is guaranteed to ITA Airways passengers departing from Milan Linate to all destinations and those departing from Catania and going to Milan Linate,鈥 according to the ITA Airways website.

How can passengers use FaceBoarding?

ITA are instructing passengers to go to the desks for Face Boarding (check-in island 8 in Milano Linate, and the check-in area in front of the SkyPriority desk in Catania).

In order for initial registration, passengers should scan their documents (passport or electronic ID card), and then proceed to do a face scan.

After registration, passengers can continue their journey at the airport, without having to show personal and travel documents and with priority, both at the security and at the boarding gates (in Catania, Gate number 7 has been designated for this).

After this initial desk registration, passengers may use the special Face Boarding App to match identification for future travels.

The trial is set to continue until December 31, 2025.

An airport ground staff worker fell from the L1 passenger door of a TransNusa A321 when a stepladder was moved away from the plane.

The unfortunate incident, which appears to have happened sometime within May 13-15, 2024 was captured on video and has been shared on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).

In the video clip, the worker appears to have concluded aircraft checks and steps out of the aircraft, where a stepladder had been placed. However, he is not facing the steps when he exits, seemingly presuming that the stepladder is still in position.

Coincidentally, other ground workers pulled the stepladder away from the plane the moment the man steps, and the gap sends him plummeting down the ground to the tarmac.

According to various social media posts, the incident occurred in Jakarta精东影业 Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), and fortunately, the worker did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

A Fly Guy精东影业 Cabin Crew Lounge, a Facebook group for aviation professionals with over a million followers, has called out for more 鈥渟ituational awareness鈥 at work to prevent such accidents from happening.
