An altercation between two passengers over an empty seat escalated into a brawl on an EVA Air flight from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on May 7, 2024.

Flight BR 08 departed TPE Airport and was just three hours into the 11-hour flight when the fight began.

EVA Air told local Taiwanese media the commotion began when a passenger decided to switch seats because the person next to him was coughing. According to the airline, the man found an empty seat and settled in it. However, the original occupant of the seat returned several minutes later – and that精东影业 when the confrontation began.

Video footage of the brawl was posted by A Fly Guy精东影业 Cabin Crew Lounge, a Facebook page with over a million followers from the aviation industry.

The clip showed the two men exchanging punches while a female flight attendant placed herself between the pair to de-escalate the situation. Two other flight attendants can be seen holding back one of the men, while fellow passengers stepped in to restrain the other man.

Flight attendants then placed the men in separate areas of the aircraft for the remainder of the flight.

The men were handed over to airport police when the flight arrived at SFO.

EVA Air also said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards 鈥減assenger nuisance鈥 incidents and praised its staff for the quick intervention.聽

Airbus and EVA Air have finalized an agreement for the Taiwanese airline to purchase 18 long-range A350-1000s and 15 single-aisle A321neo aircraft.

EVA Air was reportedly weighing up aircraft made by both Airbus and Boeing before finally deciding on the A350 and A321neo.聽

News of the deal first came to light in November 2023, after the $10.1 billion deal was confirmed in a filing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

鈥淪o excited that #EVAAir has chosen the #A350-1000, our #LongRangeLeader, to modernize its long-haul fleet. Adding to this news, the airline has also announced that it will order the #A321neo for its regional routes,鈥 Airbus wrote on November 7, 2023, in a social media post.聽聽

The order with Airbus is a coup for the planemaker with EVA Air精东影业 current long-haul fleet including 32 active Boeing 777-300ERs.

鈥淲e have selected the Airbus aircraft following a thorough evaluation of the various models in each market segment. In both size categories we have selected the most modern and fuel-efficient types, that offer the highest levels of passenger comfort. The aircraft also bring significant reductions in carbon emissions, which is in line with our company精东影业 sustainability goals,鈥 Clay Sun, President of EVA Air, said.

Sun added: 鈥淔or long-range operations the A350-1000 sets new standards in its class and will allow us to offer our passengers the best possible in-flight experience.鈥

The purchase also includes 15 A321neos, the longest member of Airbus鈥 renowned A320 family aircraft, which will be used for regional operations.

鈥淭his order marks a new phase in our relationship with EVA Air and we thank the airline for its confidence in Airbus. In the long-range market, it精东影业 another major endorsement for the A350-1000 as the natural replacement for previous generation aircraft in the larger widebody size category,鈥 Beno卯t de Saint-Exup茅ry, Airbus EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, said. 鈥淲e also thank EVA for reaffirming its commitment to the latest generation Airbus single aisle family with its first direct purchase of the A321neo and we look forward to working closely with the airline as it prepares for its new Airbus fleet.鈥

The A350 is available in two sizes, with the A350-900 typically seating up to 350 passengers in a standard three-class configuration and the larger A350-1000 seating up to 410 passengers.

The A350 family has won more than 1,000 firm orders from 60 customers worldwide, with more than 570 aircraft currently in the fleets of 39 operators, flying primarily on long-haul routes.

In March 2023, EVA Air purchased five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.聽 聽聽

A couple精东影业 quarrel on board a recent EVA Air flight ended up in a flight diversion, police involvement, and the pair being kicked off the flight.

Flight BR 068 was enroute to Bangkok精东影业 Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on September 30, 2023.

The dramatic episode began five hours into the flight, when the couple started arguing. In the middle of the altercation, the woman stormed off from the economy cabin and went to sit in the premium economy section.

However, she refused to pay for the upgrade and both her and her partner continued to argue and be disruptive during the flight. A spokesperson for EVA Air told that the male passenger, who was already behaving in a 鈥渄isorderly鈥 manner, started smoking an e-cigarette inside the cabin.

The couple精东影业 rowdy behavior continued, until the cabin crew, with the help of eight other passengers, managed to restrain them both.

Soon after, the pilot announced that the flight would have to divert to Vienna International Airport (VIE) so that the couple could be removed.

Airport police escorted the couple out of the flight. The drama, however, did not end there.

Once they were on the tarmac, the couple精东影业 spat carried on, and to the astonishment of fellow passengers the woman was seen throwing dollar bills worth 拢5,000 ($6,000) to the man.

One of the passengers onboard the flight was able to capture the dramatic moment when bills can be seen flying in the air, before being picked up by police officers.

Passengers can be heard gasping when the woman threw away cash, with the person filming the video saying, 鈥淭hat精东影业 the 拢5,000 she said she had in her bag.鈥

Other passengers who witnessed the events told various media outlets that the couple kept arguing about money and that the woman stressed at least twice that she had that amount of money in her handbag.

The flight eventually continued on to Bangkok without the couple. It is still not known whether the pair faced criminal charges.

Taiwanese carrier EVA Air suspends its Taipei-Chicago flights until September 18, 2021, after three of the airline精东影业 pilots tested positive for COVID-19.

On September 4, 2021, local media reported that EVA Air had sacked one of the pilots for breaking the airline精东影业 self-monitoring protocols and failing to provide correct information about his health.

The Central News Agency reports that the pilot flew to Chicago on August 26, 2021, and upon arriving, broke EVA Air精东影业 self-health monitoring rules and went out to dine with friends in a crowded area. The pilot then allegedly proceeded to provide misleading information prior to flying out to Brisbane on August 30, 2021.

As all three COVID-positive pilots had flown to Chicago, EVA Air made the decision to put a hold on its Chicago flights until September 18, 2021. On its website, EVA Air posted its regarding tickets affected by the cancellation of its Chicago route.

Taiwan, which has managed to put COVID-19 under relative control, has gone under renewed alert due to the incident and is considering putting flight crew under tighter quarantine rules.

On December 29, 2020, EVA Air admitted having fired eight employees due to the violation of Taiwan精东影业 pandemic prevention regulations.

In a statement, EVA Air revealed that it had fired four pilots and four cabin crew members for breaking pandemic prevention rules. However, the airline did not explain which anti-pandemic rules have been breached.

鈥淩egrettably, since March, there are still 4 flight attendants and 4 pilots who have violated the epidemic prevention regulations. The company has removed all of them from their posts to serve as an example,鈥 as outlined in the statement.

On December 24, 2020, EVA Air fired a New Zealand national who has worked as a pilot, blaming him for the violation of pandemic prevention regulations. The pilot allegedly filed an untruthful health report after he contracted the virus earlier in December 2020.

Taiwan精东影业 government fined EVA Air $35,000 for the New Zealand pilot incident. Since then, the government has tightened pandemic prevention rules for airline精东影业 crew.
