In an aviation first, Korean Air has entered the virtual world to create its latest inflight safety video that will be presented to passengers on flights before take-off.

The five-minute guide is set in a computer-generated space, with a friendly virtual cabin crew member running through safety instructions.

Korean Air said it hopes that the introduction of virtual humans in its safety video will appeal to all passengers and help ensure they are engaged during a vital part of the flight.聽聽

The inflight safety guide was produced by Metaverse Entertainment, which previously developed the virtual girl group, MAVE, all of whom feature as passengers in the new video.

The flight attendant, also created by Metaverse Entertainment, is played by Rina, a virtual influencer who is popular on social media and short platform content.

According to South Korea精东影业 flag-carrier, the video is set in the 鈥楰orean Air Safety Lounge鈥, which was designed to make it easier to explain and understand the inflight safety rules.聽聽

In the safety video, Rina advises passengers on how to store carry-on luggage, wearing a seatbelt, prohibited items during the flight, cabin smoking regulations, procedures in the case of cabin pressure abnormalities, locations of the emergency exits and how to put on a life jacket.

鈥淭his will become a great example of the synergy created between the aviation industry and digital technology. We intend to change perceptions of inflight safety videos with these new ideas, and make them more relatable and engaging for passengers,鈥 a Korean Air representative, said.

Korean Air will begin playing the new safety video on all flights starting from January 4, 2024, and it has also been released on the airline精东影业 official YouTube Channel too.聽

With the arrival of Christmas month, Air New Zealand has launched a special video to ensure that anyone traveling with the airline over the holiday season has a stress-free and enjoyable travel experience. The video forms part of a broader campaign by the airline to persuade people to plan ahead to ensure a hassle-free festive journey.聽

Described as 鈥渉igh-flying action meets festive fun,鈥 Air New Zealand精东影业 video follows one of the company精东影业 flight attendants undertaking a challenging mission through an airport terminal to reunite a family with a gift package left behind on one of the carrier精东影业 flights.

Blending a story of high drama with action-packed stunts and a festive message, the video follows Air New Zealand flight attendant Shanti Tucker as she battles her way past numerous obstacles while maintaining an air of professionalism as she tracks down the owner of the lost package.

Without wishing to spoil the video精东影业 conclusion, Tucker goes above and beyond the call of duty in her audacious attempt to reunite the gift with its rightful owner. You get the picture if you imagine a Hollywood blockbuster shot in a bustling airport terminal.聽

Air New Zealand says the action-packed film demonstrates its commitment to creating 鈥渦nforgettable moments for its customers, especially during the busy Christmas season.鈥

鈥淥n Christmas day alone, more than 30,000 customers will be flying with Air New Zealand,鈥 said Air New Zealand精东影业 Chief Customer and Sales Manager Leanne Geraghty. 鈥淲e want to ensure each and every one of them has an incredible experience. We know that just like in our video, our entire team will go above and beyond to create exceptional moments of magic no matter what obstacles come flying their way.鈥

In the video, Tucker is seen speeding through the crowded terminal, sliding down an escalator, and narrowly avoiding a collision with some wayward Christmas candy canes.

Explaining the concept behind the video, Tucker said that shooting the video was an unforgettable experience.

鈥淲hile our customers won鈥檛 have to dodge the same obstacles at the airport when they head away this Christmas, there are a few things they can do to ensure a smooth, stress (and stunt) free experience. Arriving a little earlier than usual, checking in online, and packing your patience always helps!鈥 Tucker said.

鈥淎s an Air New Zealand flight attendant, our job includes caring for our customers and providing excellent service, but this year精东影业 campaign brings a new meaning to that. While we might not be sliding through doors in the name of service, remember, the Air New Zealand team is鈥痑lways鈥痟ere to help,鈥 the flight attendant added.聽聽

Top tips for stress and stunt-free Christmas travel, according to Air New Zealand, include allowing extra time to travel and plan ahead, being prepared for airport security, packing essentials in hand luggage, and checking your seat before leaving the aircraft so you too don鈥檛 leave any valuable personal items behind.

Lastly, the airline recommends all travelers download its app to keep updated with travel updates and flight information over the holiday season.

In Summer 2023 Air Canada will launch the world精东影业 first Walt Disney World鈥搕hemed in-flight safety video.聽

On June 15, 2023, the airline shared a teaser of the video that will appear on flights across approximately 90% of the Air Canada fleet this July through to September 2023.聽聽

The film produced in collaboration with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Canada and shot by Canadian film director Melanie Chung, features iconic Walt Disney World Resort attractions and experiences.

The project is a global first for both companies, and the new in-flight safety video includes special nods to Disney alongside traditional on-board safety demonstrations.聽

It is not the first time, however, that airlines and the entertainment world have joined up to create memorable in-flight safety videos.

Air New Zealand pulled out all the stops in 2012 when the airline released a safety video that was inspired by the then upcoming film 鈥楾he Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey鈥.听听听

Members of the cast and even the director Peter Jackson made an appearance in the safety video that lasted more than four minutes.

“Family is at the centre of why so many of us travel. Over the last few years, we’ve been focused on improving the Air Canada family travel experience with family-friendly policies, family check-in counters, and shared family benefits in our Aeroplan loyalty program,” said Andy Shibata, vice president 鈥 Brand, Air Canada.

He added: “As we reflected on opportunities to bring more care and comfort to the family travel experience, we were inspired to add a little magic to everyone’s trip with the help of Disney. Our new in-flight safety video encourages travellers of all ages to learn about the safety features of our aircraft in a new and engaging way.”聽

The post A year of war: What can video footage tell us about air combat in Ukraine? appeared first on 精东影业.]]>
Today marks one year since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

At no other point in history has a war of such scale been waged under the watchful eye of so many recording devices. Footage from civilian phones, observation cameras and even the screens of advanced guided weapons immediately flooded the internet, likely making the invasion one of the most well-documented.

But what have been some of the most interesting episodes captured on video during the past year? And what can they tell us about the ongoing war?

In this article, 精东影业 revisits previous articles and explains what the footage tells us about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. 聽

Civilians with phone in hand聽

While Antonov Airlines and its flagship An-225 Mriya, the largest aircraft in the world, were among the best-known Ukrainian brands across the globe, its main base Hostomel Airport was decidedly less famous.

But that changed on February 24, 2023, when the airport was subjected to intense Russian bombardment and a paratrooper attack, as the country精东影业 airborne forces attempted to capture it and establish a bridgehead for more troops to be flown in.

Hundreds of videos of Russian helicopters attacking the airport soon began to surface online, with much of the footage filmed by bystanders to the unfolding conflict.

The Battle of Kyiv continued for more than a month and ended in the eventual retreat of Russian forces. It also resulted in horrifying civilian losses and severe damage to infrastructure, with towns north of Kyiv devastated by intense combat.

Hostomel Airport and the fleet of Antonov airlines were some of the most notable material casualties of the battle. As footage of the aftermath showed, the airport was ravaged, and many unique aircraft lay in ruins.

Heroic moments

By April 2022 Russia had refocused its attack on the East of Ukraine, which led to the stabilization of the frontlines. There was also a sharp drop in the amount of combat footage filmed by civilians because non-combatants were less likely to find themselves in the middle of a battle. At the same time, militaries on both sides became stricter with enforcing operational security, as even one soldier with a mobile phone could reveal the location of an entire unit.

Hand-held footage became scarcer. However, it was still being published online, likely only after thorough screening by the poster精东影业 superiors, meaning that we were privy to some of the most spectacular footage of aircraft being shot down over Ukraine.

Some of this footage was captured by soldiers who operated the Stugna, a Ukrainian-made laser-guided anti-tank missile system, used with spectacular effect on anything from Russian tanks to helicopters.

Other footage showed Ukrainians attempting to stop Russian bombardment with whatever means possible, including man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and air-to-air missiles launched from fighter jets.

Drones everywhere聽

One of the most notable features of the war has been the wide use of drones. On the one hand, drones have become an integral asset for any military during the past two decades. On the other hand, remotely controlled aircraft provide the perfect opportunity to capture video footage for later dissemination, which is why some of the most spectacular moments of the entire war were filmed by drones.

In the early days of the war a fleet of Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones were instrumental in Ukraine精东影业 effort to blunt the Russian attack, performing reconnaissance and bombing runs with near impunity while Russia struggled to establish its air defense network.

However, the role of large drones, such as the TB2, became far less important after the establishment of robust ground-based air defense (GBAD) networks in April-May 2022. Only significant frontline shifts, such as Ukraine精东影业 advances near Kherson and Kharkiv, disrupted those networks enough to renew the use of Bayraktars in a strike role.

With the absence of Bayraktars, another source of video footage became widespread. This time, filmed from smaller drones, which were wielded in huge quantities by both the Ukrainian and Russian forces. Such drones became an indispensable part of the warfare that continues to unfold to this day, performing a myriad of roles from observation and surveillance of the frontlines to artillery spotting and the assessment of damage.

A new kind of warfare

Not only were commercial drones utilized in passive observation role, but they also began to play an active part in the conflict.

Soldiers have been attaching explosives on small quadcopters to be dropped on – or plunged into – an enemy in past conflicts too. But only in Ukraine did this trend go beyond the occasional use and become the focus of entire units, with bomb-equipped drones being the only way to intrude beyond well-protected frontlines and harass the rear of enemy deployments.

One of the most spectacular cases of such attacks was a bombing run conducted by a Ukrainian drone in August 2022, when a Russian electronic warfare system, specifically designed to target small drones, was destroyed.

The proliferation of commercial quadcopters made their 鈥渕eetings鈥 above the frontline an inevitability. And so, the dogfights between remotely controlled drones began, with both sides attempting to strike down the enemy精东影业 aircraft without damaging their own.

When 精东影业 covered the first instance in October 2022, it seemed like a novel idea. However, since then, scores of similar video footage emerged, demonstrating a completely new kind of aerial warfare.

At least one video showing Rwandan military shooting man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) at a Congolese Air Force Sukhoi Su-25 attack aircraft has surfaced online.

The incident took place on January 24, 2023, near the city of Goma, on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), reports claimed.

The Rwandan government has a statement saying that the Congolese jet had violated its airspace 鈥渇or the third time鈥 and that 鈥渄efensive measures were taken鈥.

鈥淩wanda asks the DRC to stop this aggression,鈥 the statement added.

The Congolese government responded, stating that the aircraft was flying in its own territory and then it was attacked by Rwanda in a 鈥渄eliberate act of aggression that amounts to an act of war鈥.

In the video, a Su-25 can be seen flying at low altitude when a missile approaches the aircraft and explodes nearby, seemingly damaging the jet.

A photo taken at Goma airport has also been posted online, allegedly showing the aircraft after a successful landing. Its right wing appears to be on fire.

DRC has long Rwanda of supporting the M23, a rebel group waging war against the Congolese government. Rwanda denied the allegations.

The countries have continued to exchange accusations as tensions in the region rose between DRC troops and the M23.

At least one other video, showing what appears to be a DRC Su-25 coming under fire, has been circulating across social media channels. The video likely portrays another instance of Rwandan troops attacking a Congolese jet, although its authenticity could not be confirmed.

According to data from the Military Balance 2022 , published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, The Air Force of the Democratic Republic of the Congo operates four Su-25 attack aircraft, the type being the country精东影业 only fixed-wing combat aircraft.

A Russian drone carrying a guided bomb, crashed into powerlines in Russia, approximately 40 kilometers from the border of Ukraine.

The incident took place on the evening of January 11, according to Russian media, near the settlement of Severny, Belogorod region.

While the event was widely covered by Russian media, the country精东影业 officials have yet to comment.

The crash was captured by dashcam video, and numerous photos from the crash site have also been posted on Russian social media.

The images appear to show fragments of Forpost, a reconnaissance drone widely used by Russian armed forces.

The Forpost is a copy of the Israeli-designed IAI Searcher, licensed in 2010 and manufactured at Kazan Helicopter Factory and Ural Civil Aviation Factory.

At least one KAB-20S laser-guided bomb can be seen among the fragments. Russian military have published footage of Forpost drones armed with these bombs since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to reports, the crash resulted in interruptions to the electricity supply to a part of Belgorod city. The electricity was restored later that same night, the reports claimed.
