More than 1,700 flights canceled across US due to Hurricane Beryl

More than 1,700 flights were canceled in the United States on July 8, 2024, as Hurricane Beryl hit the country.  

The most severe impact from the hurricane was seen along the coast of Texas, with conditions intensifying from Matagorda Bay to Sabine Pass and Galveston Bay.  

According to flight tracking website , there were a total of 196 cancellations and 156 delays between 12:00 and 17:00 July 8, 2024, 07:44 EDT. So far, 1,714 flights have been canceled and 734 flights have been delayed.  

United Airlines was forced to cancel 405 flights, while Southwest Airlines canceled 268 flights and delayed 112.  

525 departures and 448 arrivals were canceled to avoid the storm at Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). 

According to the National Hurricane Center, is an active and life-threatening storm, bringing major winds and urban flooding. On the , this hurricane is classified as Category 1. The season started June, 2024, and is projected to continue until November, 2024. 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) concerns about Hurricane Beryl on July 5, 2024, urging travelers to check the status of flights before heading to the airport.
