American Airlines B737-800 aborts takeoff after blowing tyres: video

An American Airlines B737-800 was forced to abort its takeoff from Tampa International Airport (TPA) after blowing multiple tires.

The incident occurred on July 10, 2024. The 25-year old B737-800, with registration N908AN, was operating as flight AA 590, bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

In a the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the flight aborted its takeoff at around 07:50 local time after the crew reported 鈥渕ultiple blown tires鈥.

The moment the aircraft tires blew was captured on video and uploaded to Captain Steven Markovich精东影业 YouTube channel. Since then, the clip has been reposted on several other social media channels, including X (formerly Twitter).

The video clip shows the aircraft精东影业 rear right tires bursting during takeoff and, as the plane continued down the runway, short sparks and smoke emitting from the tires.

The aircraft can then be seen slowing down until coming to a stop at the end of the runway, where it was met by the airport fire brigade.

According to American Airlines, all 174 passengers and six crew members were safe. All passengers were re-accommodated on alternate flights to Phoenix. 

鈥淐ustomers safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,鈥 the airline said.
