In a surprise development on the fourth day of the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, Airbus has announced that Saudi Arabian low-cost airline flynas has signed an agreement for 90 neo-type aircraft.  

Airbus and flynas confirmed on July 25, 2024, that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed off during for 75 A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900s.聽

It is understood that flynas also has options for an additional 55 A320neos and 15 A330s, bringing the pottential acquisition to 160 jets.

The new A330neos will allow flynas to operate services to long-haul destinations while the A320neo continues the airlines commitment to the aircraft type. 

Flynas’ latest and 53rd Airbus A320neo landed at King Khalid International Airport (RUS) in Riyadh on July 17, 2024.听听

The first of 120 Airbus A320neos was delivered to flynas on November 13, 2018, as part of the Saudia Arabian National Civil Aviation Strategy, to connect the country with 250 international destinations and host 100 million tourists each year by 2030.听听聽

Airbus confirmed that the new A330neos will include a two-class configuration, accommodating up to 400 passengers.

According to Airbus, Flynas 鈥渁nticipates significant operational efficiency gains by combining the new widebody aircraft with its existing A320neo fleet鈥.

The A330neo will allow flynas to further grow into widebody markets by building on the A320, benefiting from Airbus鈥 unique commonality,鈥 Airbus CEO of Commercial Aircraft, Christian Scherer, said.  

He added: 鈥淏oth aircraft types offer flynas the perfect versatility and economics to expand into new markets while offering their passengers the latest cabin experience and comfort. According to flynas, it currently flies an all-Airbus fleet of 64 aircraft and operates 1,500 flights a week to more than 70 destinations around the world.听听聽

Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier flynas has welcomed it 53rd new Airbus A320neo after placing an order for 120 of the aircraft type in 2017.  

The latest Airbus A320neo landed at King Khalid International Airport (RUS) in Riyadh on July 17, 2024, from Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) after flying in from Tianjin, China.听听

The first of 120 Airbus A320neos was delivered to flynas on November 13, 2018, as part of the Saudia Arabian , to connect the country with 250 international destinations and host 100 million tourists each year by 2030.聽

In a statement on July 17, 2024, flynas said that the new A320neo, registered HZ-NS86, was the sixth to be delivered this year and means that the airline is nearing the halfway point of its initial order.听听聽

鈥淭he 53rd aircraft of the next-generation model touched down at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, reaching a total of 6 aircraft delivered until July 2024, which has contributed to consolidating flynas position as the leading low-cost airline in the Middle East, and one of the top 4 low-cost airlines in the world,鈥 an airline spokesperson said in a statement.

Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier flynas is celebrating the arrival of its 50th Airbus A320neo jets as it powers towards eventually receiving a total of 120 of the aircraft type. 

The new arrival comes after flynas鈥 first Airbus A320neo was delivered on November 13, 2018, following an agreement with the European plane manufacturer in 2017.  

Flynas held a special ceremony on April 2, 2024, to welcome the new aircraft which is part of the airline精东影业 ambitious expansion plan under the title “We Connect the World to the Kingdom”.听听

This plan runs in parallel with the objectives of the National Civil Aviation Strategy to increase the number of international destinations linked to Saudi Arabia to 250.聽

By the end of 2023, flynas had more than doubled the size of its all-Airbus fleet by more than 100% in less than two years.听听

Saudi low-cost airline flynas has started the process to undertake an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2024. 

, flynas has already hired investment banks Goldman Sachs Group and Morgan Stanley, as well as Fransi Capital of Saudi Arabia, to prepare for the company精东影业 stock market listing during 2024.聽

This is not the first time that the Riyadh-based airline has toyed with the idea of a public listing. In 2008, the airline, then called Nas Air, hired Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Inc. and NCB Capital with the same purpose, though the move never materialized. 

flynas is owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal and it operates an all-Airbus 60 aircraft fleet, a mix of A320neos and ceos and A330s. It has another 120 aircraft on order with the European manufacturer (110 A320neo and 10 A321XLR aircraft). 聽

On November 30, 2023, flynas also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EVE, the advanced air mobility arm of Embraer, to explore the roll-out of eVTOL operations in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, by 2026.

Future flight developer Eve Air Mobility and low-cost airline flynas have agreed to work together to being electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) to Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in 2026.

The two aviation companies announced on November 28, 2023, that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed by both parties to explore the evolution of eVTOL flight in the two cities.

Saudi Arabian carrier flynas has received four Airbus A320neo aircraft in two weeks, leaving just four more to arrive to reach its full order of the variant for 2023.

According to low-cost airline flynas, the four aircraft arrived in the last two weeks of October 2023, meaning it now has 43 A320neo jets, representing more than 70% of its fleet.

Over the past 10 months flynas has received a total of 15 A320neos from the initial order of 19 for delivery in 2023.

鈥淭he rapid growth in flynas鈥 fleet during the last period while the industry and the supply chain are facing challenges reflects the company精东影业 reliability and its strategic partnership with the top aircraft producers in the world to continue with its plans to increase its fleet size and complete taking delivery of the new aircraft,鈥 Bander Almohanna, CEO and Managing Director of flynas, said.

Saudi Arabian low-cost airline flynas has bolstered its fleet with the arrival of five Airbus A320neo aircraft in one month. 

The deliveries have boosted the carrier精东影业 all-Airbus fleet to 56 aircraft, reflecting growth of more than 100% in the last two years. 

The growth is part of flynas鈥 鈥榃e connect the world with KSA鈥 expansion, in line with the national civil aviation strategy to reach 330 million passengers and 100 million tourists, as well as increasing the international destinations linked with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to more than 250by 2030. 

With the delivery of the new five A320neo, the total number of aircraft received by flynas this year has reached 11, with 19 A320neo aircraft in total scheduled for delivery in 2023.聽

Bander Almohanna, CEO and managing director of flynas, said: “This new batch of aircraft reflects flynas’s commitment to achieving its strategy of growth and expansion by upscaling its fleet and multiplying the seating capacity of domestic and international flights in line with objectives of the program of serving pilgrims to streamline access to the two holy mosques and the national strategy of civil aviation to enable national airlines to participate in linking the world with the Kingdom.鈥  

Almohanna added: “The rise of our fleet will enable us to increase our expansion plans in the current year through the launch of new domestic and international destinations, and in particular, the company, over the next weeks, will receive new eight planes as part of the batch scheduled for delivery in 2023 of 19 aircraft, within an order of purchasing 120 aircraft from Airbus. Hence, the company proceeds to bolster its position as the largest low-cost carrier in the Middle East and one of the top 5 airlines in the world.” 

He indicated that flynas is preparing to launch its latest operations base in before the end of 2023, making it the only carrier with four operations bases across Saudi Arabia.聽

Increasing the number of its A320neo aircraft to 39 aircraft, representing about 70% of its fleet, reinforces flynas’ commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

Saudi Arabia-based flynas has ordered 30 Airbus A320neo aircraft, confirming previous reports suggesting that the airline was looking to acquire aircraft from Airbus. 

The airline firmed up an order for 30 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, though the manufacturer did not disclose the exact type. The newest order has increased flynas鈥 order book to 120 A320neo family aircraft, 10 of which are the A321XLRs. 

Airbus and flynas signed the agreement at the Paris Air Show 2023. Attending the event were a myriad of executives, including Airbus鈥 Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and Head of International Christian Scherer, flynas鈥 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director Bandar Almohanna. Also present were Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistic Service of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz Alduailj, the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia (GACA), and Ayed Aljeaid, the Chairman of the Board of NAS Holding, flynas鈥 parent company.

flynas’ fleet currently consists of 32 A320neo, 13 A320ceo, and four A330-300 aircraft, with additional orders for 51 Airbus aircraft: 41 A320neo and 10 A321XLRs. 

Previous reports implied that the airline was looking to finalize an agreement with Airbus at the event.
