A helicopter pilot has been widely praised after he drew on his years of experience to prevent a catastrophe during a scenic tour flight in Kauai, Hawaii.

The incredible incident unfolded on February 27, 2024, after four passengers and the chief pilot of Jack Harter Helicopters toured the idyllic Hawaiian island to take in its breathtaking views from above.

It had been previously reported by local media that the MD500E helicopter lost power while flying above Honopu Beach at around 13:30.

Despite the life-threatening circumstances the pilot was able to land the helicopter on Honopu Beach. One passenger suffered a back injury due to a hard landing.

Now footage of the incident had emerged from inside the helicopter, giving a heart-stopping insight into the dramatic moments when the aircraft began to plummet towards the ground.

In the video the engine can be heard losing power and as the camera pans up the rotor blades appear to slow down.

As warning signals begin to sound the outlook for those on board looks bleak.聽聽

However, under incredible pressure and with four people精东影业 lives in his hands the pilot somehow manages to maneuver the helicopter to land on Honopu Beach.聽聽

In a post on X (formally Twitter) @thenewarea51 explains that after the helicopter lost power the pilot would have had to 鈥渕anipulate鈥 the controls in a 鈥渄elicate balance鈥 to counter act gravity pulling the aircraft down.

In a post on its Facebook page, Jack Harter Helicopter said following the incident it notified all 鈥渇ederal and local government officials and agencies including the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and County of Kauai, police, fire and rescue鈥.

The company added: 鈥淲e wish to extend our appreciation and aloha for all of the efforts and support during this time. With the community精东影业 assistance, we were able to get immediate care and treatment to those on board, and to remove the wreckage within 24 hours to limit any damage or harm to the environment.鈥

The company added that following the incident the injured passenger was discharged from hospital.

An American Airlines Airbus A321neo suffered a hard landing when landing at Maui in Hawaii on January 28, 2204. The incident resulted in six passengers and crew being injured and requiring hospital treatment.

The incident involved American Airlines flight AA271 from Los Angeles (LAX) to Maui Kahului International Airport (OGG) operated by one of American精东影业 298-strong fleet of Airbus 321neos registered N416AN. The flight had 167 passengers and seven crew onboard.聽

According to reports, the flight had almost completed its five hours 30 minutes sector across the Pacific Ocean without incident. However, upon landing on Maui精东影业 runway 20, the aircraft sank and touched down hard on the runway精东影业 surface. Weather conditions at the time of the landing were described as 鈥渂lustery鈥 with the wind at 17 knots gusting up to 25 knots and an outside air temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius).

The hard landing resulted in the hospitalization of six cabin crew members and one passenger. According to a statement issued by the Maui Police Department, all six individuals remain in stable condition. Except for the injured passenger, all the remaining passengers were able to disembark in a normal manner.

The aircraft was reported to be undamaged in the landing incident. However, the aircraft has been taken out of service pending further inspection and remains at Maui at the time of writing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said that it will be launching a full inquiry into the incident.

The airline has yet to make any formal announcement regarding the incident, particularly regarding whether the windy conditions played any part in the hard landing.

According to ch-aviation, the aircraft involved in this latest incident was delivered to American Airlines in February 2020 making it just under four years old. The aircraft is configured to carry 196 passengers in total 鈥 20 in business class, 47 in economy plus, and 129 in economy.

The incident is the second major incident for American Airlines during January 2024. On January 19, 2024, an American Airlines Embraer E145 regional jet with 53 passengers onboard suffered a runway excursion upon landing in snowy conditions in Rochester, New York. The incident did not result in any injuries to either passengers or crew, however.聽聽

A checked baggage process room had to be locked down at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), also known as Honolulu Airport, in Hawaii, United States (US), after anti-aircraft ammunition was found in a passenger’s luggage.

According to , the discovery was made on December 8, 2023, at 5:30 am local time, when security scanners flagged the unusual item.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents immediately checked the suspect bag and located a .50 caliber anti-aircraft round of ammunition inside.

As a precaution the checked baggage room was evacuated, and local police departments were notified about the incident.

The Hawaii State Sheriffs, Honolulu Police Department bomb squad and US Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal all responded to the emergency call.

After specialist trained staff investigated the anti-aircraft ammunition, the item was removed from the area and normal services returned to the airport at 7:30 am.

It is not unusual for TSA agents to find firearms in passengers’ baggage, but the discovery of anti-aircraft ammunition will certainly be a first for many.

On the same day as the HNL incident, the TSA announced that a man was stopped at a Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Virginia, check point with a loaded 9mm handgun.

It was the 34th gun that TSA officers have detected at DCA at one of the checkpoints so far this year.

A US Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft crashed into Kaneohe Bay in Oahu after it overshot the runway at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

The incident occurred on November 20, 2023, at about 13:57 local time when the aircraft, assigned to the US Navy Patrol Squadron Four (VP-4), was landing after a routine training.

There were nine people onboard, who all managed to swim to shore. No one was reported to be injured or harmed.

Aircraft expert Peter Forman told that the runway in Kaneohe is shorter than average, and added that bad weather and winds may also have played a part.

鈥淭he pilot probably didn鈥檛 put the plane down exactly where he wanted to on the runway,鈥 Forman said. 鈥淚t精东影业 probably a combination of all those factors put together.鈥

Several photos and video footage of the P-8A Poseidon submerged in the bay have been circulating on social media outlets. The fuselage of the aircraft appears intact, which could be an indication of a low-speed crash.

The P-8A Poseidon is manufactured by Boeing, and is a multi-mission maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft used to conduct long-range maritime and littoral operations, search and rescue missions. It has intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare capabilities.

The Marine Corps Base in Hawaii was built in 1919 and has been actively used since 1952. It is home to over 25,000 Marines, sailors, family members and civilian employees.

Elon Musk has announced that his companies and are doing their 鈥渂est to be helpful to Hawaii,鈥 as it recovers from devastating wildfires.

These efforts include the deployment of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite terminals to assist in restoring internet connectivity to the distressed community.

Later, a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Starlink精东影业 official account also confirmed that more than 650 satellite internet kits had been shipped to over 40 organizations currently assisting with the island’s rebuilding efforts.

”The Starlink team covered expedited shipping and distribution costs for all kits delivered to recovery efforts in Maui, donated ~35% of the hardware costs, and we are working with local retailers to make Starlink available below cost. More to come as needed!鈥, another tweet read.

Social media images appear to show Starlink kits being installed on the island to provide free internet to those affected by the disaster in Maui, Hawaii.

Starlink provides internet access via a network of low-Earth orbit satellites and its kits include pre-connected equipment for simple installation.

In a Facebook post on August 15, 2023, Red Lightning Disaster Relief, the non-profit organization focusing on disaster aid response which is helping with recovery efforts in Hawaii, announced it has also bought 20 Starlink systems and had begun setting them up.

鈥淥n assessment, one of the major needs is communication in many areas. Many power lines are down and connectivity is hard to find,鈥 the non-profit organization noted in a post.

The wildfires started on August 8, 2023, and have already killed at least 111 people, including children, primarily in the town of Lahaina on Maui’s west coast. According to Hawaiian officials, much of the burn zone still needs to be searched, as over 1,300 people are currently missing.

Airport gates are closed from time to time. Sometimes renovations are needed, while other times an aircraft could have caused structural damage.

But a few gates at Hawaii精东影业 Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu (HNL) had to be closed for a couple of days due to a very unexpected reason: Bed bugs.

The pests were first discovered at the airport精东影业 E Gates at Terminal 2 on May 29, 2023.

The Hawaii Department of Transport (HDOT) then removed everything at the gate that they thought could be the source of the pests.

However, the following day, a Southwest Airlines manager contacted the Department of Transport once again, saying that the bugs were still there.

The HDOT then collected samples of the bugs, sent them for testing, where it received confirmation that they were bed bugs.

The HDOT then ordered the airport精东影业 Gates E-5, E-6, and E-7 to be closed between May 30-31, 2023 while it underwent deep cleaning, carpet extraction, and non-toxic bug spray. A pest control company was called in for preventative measures.

An official told Hawaii News Now that additional cleaning will continue to take place over the next three weeks to prevent recurrence.

The bed bugs have not impacted flight operations.

She added: 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 want to freak out. I didn鈥檛 want to stress out the students, so I tried to be as calm as I could.鈥

The plane flew for more than 20 minutes with just one propeller working, until it safely landed in HNL airport.
